Fourth of July 2013

What a fun day!  It started out with our church's 4th of July Pancake breakfast and flag raising ceremony.  This year, I was one of the ones in charge of this event and we wanted it to be a lot of fun for all ages.  It was a lot of work and I amazed at how Heavenly Father blessed us with people who willingly helped and shared their talents.  Everyone seemed to have a really good time!  There's nothing like planning breakfast for 250 people to make your head spin, so I feel really blessed that it did go so well.  We had a bike (scooter, stroller, roller blade) decorating station for kids which also included stuff to make tambourines if they didn't bring a bike.  We had coloring pages and trivia cards on the tables so people could test their U.S. knowledge while they were visiting with new and old friends.  After breakfast, we had the scouts do the flag raising and a gentlemen played "To the Colors" on the bugle.  A brother who served in the Navy spoke briefly and we sang a few songs.  There is nothing like being around military servicemen and their wives on the 4th of July.  Makes me tear up every time.  After that, the kids did the bike parade.  So much fun.  To top it all off, there was a surprise for us because a friend of ours who happens to love the 4th of July happened to be visiting (her brother was the one who spoke) so we got to spend the morning with her.  I hardly took any pictures because I was too busy helping or chatting but, here are a few.

After the breakfast, it was important to nap. :)  Then we enjoyed dinner and fireworks with friends.  Our church parking lot overlooks Lake Washington so we went there to enjoy the light show.  It was fun and the kids got to ride around again and play with glow sticks while we got to chat with friends while we waited for the fireworks to begin.  What a great day!
