My Nose Job!

Have you ever heard of celebrities being mocked for saying they didn't have a "nose job" they just had a deviated septum repaired?  Well, I really did have a septoplasty, not a rhinoplasty.  I have always had a problem breathing through my nose and I decided to do something about it finally.  So, my first surgery ever.  Recovery is going well.  Sometimes I feel cranky because it isn't fun being limited, but I know that I chose this and I'm lucky it's not a lot worse.  I can relate to how Tony felt just a teeny tiny bit after his facial reconstruction.  And I do mean, teeny tiny bit.  It's not fun having your face hurt, but his hurt in all kinds of ways.  So here is the before.  Scroll down for the afters.

Shell shocked the first night.

Just being goofy the day after.

Tony was home with me and has taken good care of me.  He even set his alarm to give me my pain meds every 4 hours at night the first night to stay ahead of the pain.  This is a cute pic of him playing with Evelyn.

You gotta document the wonky nose, the nasty hair and the silly daughter.

We are currently on day 3 of recovery.  I get my splint off in 4 1/2 days.  We have great friends who have helped give the kids rides, bring meals, do play dates with the kids, etc.  We feel really blessed.

The Summer of 120 Miles

This was a lofty goal, especially with as hot as it got this summer, but we always count the end of summer to be the literal end of summer so even though school had started, we still made the goal. :)

Tony took the boys to the fair!  Ev and I stayed home so she could have another recuperation day.  We watched the Women's Session of Conference together.  Well, she colored, I was inspired.
The boys lived it up!

My New Favorite Book!

This is a book I saw at the library and I would have to say that it has been great so far.  Ryan and I are having some great age-appropriate discussions about reactions and emotions.

Ryan the Mechanic

Ryan was pretty excited to get the electronic engine up and running on the train.  He even wrapped it up and made a small present to show Tony when he got home.  He likes fixing things like dad does.

Girls' Night!

Sometimes you have several friends with close birthdays so you go to the Cheesecake Factory!

Helping with the Wolves!

I got to help with the Wolf Den as they earned their Motor Away by making a self-propelled car.  Ryan loves going to scouts!

PTA Life

Tiger Lily and Her Hooman

While we were camping, our friend, Annabel, was taking care of the cats.  Tiger Lily didn't come home on Saturday and we didn't see her on Sunday.  I thought maybe something had happened to her and then because of a handy dandy app, called Nextdoor, we saw a found cat post.  Tiger Lily was visiting a neighbor and they were graciously feeding her tuna so she was graciously staying.  Well, TIger Lily is reunited with her hooman and just in time to help Evelyn feel better because she had an outer ear infection.

This was when we were watching the America's Got Talent finals and eating pizza because Evelyn, Ryan and I weren't feeling well that day.

Camping Weekend!

So we talked about camping for a little while and planned a weekend where anyone who wanted to grab a cabin could come, and then the week before we had a special meeting at church where the ward boundaries were changed.  What that meant was that there were more children and families who were going to be coming to church with us from the Benson Hill area and they would start coming the weekend we were planning on being out of town.  So I went back and forth about whether or not I still wanted to be gone the whole weekend or not, but we did end up enjoying a long weekend together. Learning and growing and letting go, that's what life is about.  I know I have counselors who are amazing and so I could wait one more week to meet the cute new kids in the ward.

So on Friday afternoon we headed out on the Fauntleroy ferry to other side of the sound.  We carpooled with the Bills and ran into the Atkins on the ferry.

We enjoyed the campfire with everyone and tons of s'mores fixings.  I tried lemon curd on graham crackers with roasted marshmallow and it tasted like lemon meringue pie.  Some of the kids were afraid to try the lemon curd but it was really good.

We played some games.

Enjoyed the campsite

Went fishing and boating

Jimmy really wanted to catch a fish by hand,

Max loved the youth canoes and quickly put them on his Christmas wish list.

Ev started feeling sick so we went to the store and got children's Tylenol.  She rested with me at the campsite.

The kids had fun going over knife safety and carving with Bryan Dean.

Evelyn had fun picking huckleberries.

Jase had fun playing Frisbee with Nathan.

The older boys had fun playing soldier on their way to the BB gun range.

Ev, Jase and Jarom had fun playing, "Follow the Leader".

On the way home we stopped at Owen's Beach to eat lunch and stretch our legs.

It was so nice to get away for a whole weekend and enjoy the outdoors together.
