Ryan in Recovery

Ryan was such a brave boy this morning. Here is his talking before his surgery, a little tired, but still cute.

Here he is wearing his spaceman hospital jammies.
From May 2012

He was very smiley or distracted by the TV playing Curious George when everyone came over to talk to us (doctor, anesthesiolgist, nurse, etc.) His lip got a little shaky for a minute when talking to one nurse but then he was fine. In fact when I walked him to the "double doors", he didn't even look back. He was too busy looking at everyone and everything and taking it all in.
It wasn't too long before the doctor came out to tell me that everything went smoothly. Everything came out easily. His adenoids were large like his tonsils as expected. He has a small split in his uvula so he "mostly" removed the adenoids so he wouldn't have any vocal issues.
The wait after that was tremendously long. I looked up everytime someone came out to the waiting room. Finally they called, "Ryan's mom". He was a sleepy, loopy boy, but I got to snuggle with him in a recliner in the recovery area. He woke up a little, had some popsicle, dozed, spit up the popsicle with a hard cough, dozed, started being really alert and then had another popsicle. We were in at 7:30 and out at 11:30am.
When we got home, he relaxed for a little while and then was up to play with trains.

Then he vomited and went back to lying down. He didn't want to take his liquid medicine and that was hard to hold him so he would take it. Thankfully he did fine the next dose.

He snoozed this afternoon and then has been playing really well with Max. He even got some gifts today in the mail and I didn't think he needed to wait until Saturday to open them. So we played play doh! Here he is resting and watching Super Why! You wouldn't believe how much his tiger, "Hobbs" and these little balloons from his great grandparents have helped him today. He has wanted them all day.

While the Guys Are Away...

the girls will still play.
We got to hang out with cousins. Well, I know I'm related by marriage and all, but they're family to me. Max, Ryan and I and Lauren, Ely and Nora all stayed at Geniel's house. The kids love to play together and they do so well. First we did some "camping" just like the dads and Grandpa were doing.

We went to see South Falls at Silver Falls Park. This was my first time visiting a waterfall that I got to walk behind. LOVED IT!
Ryan was impressed with the "teeny, tiny waterfalls" in this drainage area.

But I think South Falls is much more impressive.

Today was Ryan's 3rd birthday and we celebrated some, but I'm going to share it all in his birthday post when we finish celebrating his big day with a little family party on Saturday! What a fun weekend!

Tony's "Man Weekend"

Tony's been deserving of a break for awhile now with his grueling schedule, so...
he went on a "man weekend" with his cousin Seth and part of the time with Uncle Phil.
The first night involved camping at Henry Rierson Spruce Run Campground near the Nehalem River. The fished and went shooting and all of that good stuff.

The interim involved coming back to Oregon City, going to church with the fam and then Seth and Tony headed out again. This time they traversed Goat Mountain and stayed at the Lazy Bend Campground and fished the Clackamas River.

Max's Graduation!

Max graduated from Cross and Crown Preschool! Check out the cutie pies coming into the song, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". Max is 2nd from last.

It was hard to see him since he was on the bottom row right in front of us with lots of heads in the way. So the shots are not the best, but here are a bunch.

Max's Field Day

I volunteered to help out at Max's preschool for his second-to-last day. It was supposed to be a field day but it decided to rain here (not shocking, but it'd been awhile), so other plans were made.
When Ryan and I first got there, the kids were talking about opposites.
From May 2012

Then the modified field day began with a bouncy house and jumping balls, etc.
From May 2012

All that hard work of jumping required a little refueling.
From May 2012

and then, Molly's dad came and taught them about bridges since he works on the 520 bridge.
From May 2012

They learned that a floating bridge is also called a pontoon bridge and that it's held down by cables attached to cement blocks on the bottom of the lake. It takes 7 workers to oversee the workings of the bridge including the drawbridge part. The lake water level rises and lowers 2 feet per year so they are constantly checking the cable tension and lowering it if the water is lower, etc. There is an eagle who has made her neest on the bridge as well as two falcons and turtles are always floating around it. Max loved talking about everything he learned about. It was quite fascinating.
