Tony worked graves all last week so he finished on Thursday night and had Friday-Monday off! We didn't have any plans and we wanted to stay close to home, relax and make plans as they came to us. So here photos of our weekend fun!
We went hiking on Saturday in Issaquah. It took us about 15 minutes to get to the trailhead. Coal Creek Trail is an easy hike and showcases some of the coal mining history of the area.
This is a sealed mine shaft. You can smell the coal. We also found coal along our path.
It was a gorgeous day!
This is North Fork Falls which was a trickle due to the lack of rain.
The theme of the day was slugs. I have an aversion to them because they're gross, but we found out that Max was scared of them. We helped him get over that fear quickly--well, Tony did...I just acted brave from a few feet back.
After that, Tony and Max took the kayak down the Cedar River. Ryan, Jase and I went to the end of the river where it empties into Lake Washington to wait for them. I found this huge willow tree and we relaxed in the shade. Ryan and I played red light-green light.
Jase resting under the willow's canopy.
I think willows by the river are just perfect.
The adventurers return.
And then Ryan joins dad.
And then Max wants back in.
And a quick jaunt onto Lake Washington under the Boeing taxi way.
The other cool thing about our spot by the river is that it is right by the Renton airport so we saw airplanes landing. It reminded me a bit of Milk Creek and the Mulino airport and how you always saw airplanes flying overhead.
Max went for a swim.
But Ryan just wanted to play with the water pump.
Best.Dad.Ever!
All loaded up to go back home.
Sunday was church and relaxing--no pictures but a nice day.
Monday, we set off for Alki Beach. First we stopped for a photo op. I thought you'd be able to see the new Ferris wheel on the Seattle waterfront. Well, you can but it's facing the other direction so you just see the side.
Then we went to Lowman Beach and took the kayak out.
It was a perfect day.
We ended the weekend with a good-bye party for some wonderful church friends who thankfully aren't moving tooo far away.
Riley is one of the greatest baby-sitters and my boys love her. We're going to miss having them so close.
