Social Worker Reunion

Two of my favorite colleagues and I got together today to catch up and see each others' babies. They had babies one week apart in August so they are just a couple of months younger than Jase. Jase was so excited to hang out with the ladies. He didn't even notice that his shoes were different. Tony says I can't blame preggo brain anymore. Can't I blame sleep-deprived-and-distracted-by-three-active-boys-brain? But no worries, his shoe problem was fixed before his rendez-vous.

It was so great to catch up with these cute mamas. They are women whose friendship I treasure. We worked in adoptions together and supported each other when we had to muddle through the beaurocracy of working for the state. And now, these tired faces couldn't be any happier!

A Few Salmon Adventures

It's salmon spawning time in our Cedar River. We've been learning about the lifecycle of the Sockeye Salmon and we decided to try to see them as well. Checking the river.

The boys loved our salmon adventures. They love seeing them splash as they swim up the shallow areas. We'll have a few more salmon advenures before spawning season is over.

Playdough!

Ryan loves playdough and I decided we needed to make it instead of buy it. There's a first time for everything. It's quick and easy for kids to help.

Celebrating!

We had a fun time with cousins who came up to celebrate Tony's school accomplishment! We also got to celebrate Ely's 5th birthday as well! Lots of celebrating and lots of fun!

And then we celebrated Tony with dinner. He didn't want a big celebration, just a few friends getting together. It was perfect.

And then we didn't have time to make it to the comedy show we had planned so we went to an arcade.

This wheel was like the Price is Right wheel. Awesomeness!

We played lots. I think my favorite was the trvia game that we could all play at the same time like we were on a game show. It was great to get out. We were laughing at ourselves because we haven't been out since before Jase was born and then how often is there a night life for couples with young babies? It was fun just being together. And it was fun celebrating Tony! It was a fun night and fantastic weekend!

My friend Jenna is teaching the first go around. I'm teaching the second month. There are four kids and four moms involved. It's going to be a blast. Ryan helped me make an "About Me" collage for his first day.

His favorites: playing with toys, riding his bike, going to church, strawberries, lemonade, Lightning McQueen, Woody Woodpecker, cheeseburgers and playing with toys. His favorite airplane is the Corsair and his favorite scripture story is Nephi getting the brass plates. Oh, and his favorite color is red. He is such a cutie.

9/11/01

I think it would be cool to know what my grandparents were doing when Pearl Harbor happened or my parents when man first walked on the moon, etc., so I wanted to tell my kids about our perspective of a national event that happened.

From Dad:
I was in the 3rd or 4th week of my mission, serving in Seaford, Delaware and that morning we received a phone call around 7 in the morning. We were told that New York had been attacked and that planes had crashed into the Twin Towers and not to tract today but spend time with members. I went out to the balcony to see if I could see the smoke. Silly me, it was 200 miles away. We went over to a family we had been working with, the Serranos and they had the TV on. I saw the second plane hit live on TV. To me, it was a very emotional day. I didn't know if they would start up the draft and I'd have to go home from the mission to serve in the military. The rest of the day was spent giving comfort to the people we served.

From Mom:
I arrived at the gym to see everyone standing around looking at the TVs. It didn't seem real and I didn't grasp the significance at first. I remember watching news coverage at home and then talking about it at my institute class. It was so unbelievable that I had a hard time believing it until I saw the image replayed over and over on the screen and hearing the reports and seeing people jumping out of the building. It still brings me to tears to know of all the lives that were lost including some who were there to rescue others.

This year, on the 11th anniversary, I drove down the road to take Ryan to joyschool and there was a man standing on the side of the highway waving a flag. It was such a simple thing, but he was remembering and helping others to remember. It brought tears to my eyes as I thought about all of the families affected. It also helped me to remember how united our country was after the attacks and how I wish we were still as united now, especially during an election year.

Camping at Dash Point!

We were able to have our first camping trip of the year with some great friends! We went to Dash Point which is close and on the Puget Sound.
We played on the beach. It was a higher tide than we're used to. Dash Point is a great beach but it's even better when it's low tide. There's a creek that runs into the ocean. It provided lots of entertainment for the kids.

My favorite thing (that I didn't get a picture of) was when the kids were running around chasing falling leaves. It was the older and younger kids. They'd yell "leaf" as one descended and they'd move around in this little group to catch it. It was so cute. I love the outdoors.
Tony loves building fires.

Ryan loved his chair. He even carried it to the field where we were playing Bocce ball. What a silly kid.
This was probably our only camping trip of this year but it was a good one. Even Jason liked it--for the most part ;)
